Kelly Prchal
Orono Planning Commission Vice Chair
When you first meet Kelly, you'll notice her energy. Spend a little more time with her, and you'll discover her heart.
I met Kelly through our shared passion for serving our communities, and I've come to admire not only her talent, but her fearless commitment. I've had the opportunity to watch Kelly step into challenging civic issues with a rare combination of curiosity and determination. She makes community involvement feel approachable, and somehow manages to make even complicated local government issues compelling.
Kelly has a gift for bringing people together, asking the questions others are thinking but may be hesitant to bring forward, and making sure people actually understand the answers. She doesn't shy away from difficult conversations, and she is motivated by making things better, not popularity.
One of the things I admire most about Kelly is her genuine desire to understand issues, learn more, and her willingness to change her mind or say she was wrong. She'll challenge ideas, ask for the facts, and then work relentlessly toward the best outcome for the community. Kelly has played an instrumental role in helping residents understand the issues related to fire service in our community for the past 2+ years, encouraging thoughtful public engagement, and advocating for transparency and accountability from our public representatives. She wasn't looking for attention, she simply believed our community deserved better information and more informed decision-making.
Kelly is smart, direct, funny, compassionate, and refreshingly authentic. She cares deeply about people, and that shows up in everything she does. Whether she's advocating for safer communities, finding creative ways to engage residents, or simply making people laugh during a long meeting, she brings enthusiasm that is contagious.
Our communities need more leaders who are willing to roll up their sleeves, ask hard questions, listen with an open mind, and never lose their sense of humor along the way. Kelly is exactly that kind of leader.
I can't wait to see the impact she'll make on the Long Lake City Council, and I'm proud to wholeheartedly support her and call her a friend.
